THE GIST

A small town girl with big city dreams, Yoonyoung always fantasized a flashy, glamorous life in the metropolitan—but here she was stuck in some crappy village always fending off for herself. Okay, that might be an exaggeration because her parents always gave her and her sister just enough given their humble origins and the girl was grateful for that (it’s just a Yoonyoung problem of always wanting more). Aiming to become a renowned lawyer, Yoonyoung had her sights on a prestigious university for her pre-law and law. Surely with her grades and experience she would be able to get in with ease—but everything turned out the opposite when she read the word “sorry” on her application. Never seemingly being able to escape her hometown, Yoonyoung settled with studying in Dandelion and being a journalist and a writer for the local newspaper in hopes that it might take her to the big scenes soon. In addition to contributing to the news column, she also runs an anonymous advice column for the gossips.

• dandelion native. yoonyoung’s family are of humble origins and still is living simply in a small house with her grandparents.
• grew up with television and dramas, romanticizing the glamorous city life they always showed on screen. she dreamt to go to seoul and the rest of the world but her parents would only make empty promises while young yoonyoung always believed in them.
  • was also obsessed with the grimm brother’s version of fairytales, even if they were kinda inappropriate for children. nothing wrong with gruesome details while getting your happy ending—those are for the evil mothers anyways.
• worked hard in school to get to the seoul national university for pre-law, her record was clean and perfect as many would say and no doubt she’d get in
  • editor-in-chief for the high school newspaper, vice president of the debate club, student council representative. yoonyoung threw herself in every leader position she could manage to get. on top of that, she was a top notcher always bouncing around the top rankings along with other equally academically gifted students
• yet, she fell short and was met with a rejection letter a month after. people around her started to whisper and bother her about this fact and it irritated her that she shut herself out
• ending up staying in dandelion, yoonyoung took journalism then became a junior writer for the town newspaper, now fueled to prove those backstabbers wrong the next time because she’ll be getting in the best law school and become the best lawyer south korea has had
  • occasionally goes to seoul for workshops and other work related stuff but never staying any longer, which sucks, but she aims that one day she’ll be able to
• currently a newspaper writer, always out and about (begrudgingly) to get the latest town gossip
  • also assigned to be the advice columnist in the new “dear gossiper”, but no one knows that it is run by her

antisocial. hates people. hates gatherings. you get it.

but it wasn’t really like that—yoonyoung loved the praises she got when she was younger. at every chance, she would boast about herself and her genius. yet when she was rejected of a prestigious university for her pre-law, people were quick to whisper behind her back. tired of answering their questions and being the subject of disappointment, yoonyoung slowly kept to herself and shut everyone out who tried to get close to her emotionally—afraid of being a letdown again.

which is kinda oxymoronic for her current work line. a journalist and advice columnist, it’s only expected of her to interact with people. she’s only driven by her ambition to go to a good law school and if this is the best way to get there then she’ll do everything in her power to do so.

intuitive and intellectual.

her arrogance is not just for show—yoonyoung is smart and quick-witted. while she is silent most of the time, when given the chance to, her intellect just seeps through conversations and actions. it also helps that is very observant of her surroundings and the mannerisms of the people around her.

you say snarky. she calls it sharp-tongued.
